One of the first things I noticed when I took on this role was how the citizens were not aware of the work that was going on in the port, so we needed to start a new relationship with the city.

We thought that one solution might be to create a sort of centre for the promotion of maritime and port culture where we could meet the citizens, where we could bring tourists, where we could bring schoolchildren and explain what a port is.

We also thought that the most suitable name for this initiative was “Open Port”.

To make it an open, innovative, environmentally sustainable place, in other words to open up the port to the city.
