ONE PORT, MANY PORTS
The port of Taranto extends its quays into the bay protected by the Chéradi islands – San Pietro, San Paolo and what was originally the island of San Nicolicchio – and then immediately out of it.
It is a place in constant motion and transformation, with jetties and docks on some of which large cranes have been installed to facilitate all the port’s operations.
MULTIFUNCTIONALITY
The port of Taranto is increasingly geared towards diversification: from the complexity of exceptional shipments to the regular standardised container transportation at the Polysectoral Quay, which has been refurbished to accommodate the latest generation of large ocean-going vessels; from quays serving large steel and fossil fuel companies, to jetties where ships carrying passengers and various goods dock.

Il porto di Taranto estende i suoi moli nella rada protetta dalle isole Chéradi – San Pietro, San Paolo e quella che in origine era l’isola di San Nicolicchio – e poi subito fuori di essa. È un luogo in continuo movimento e trasformazione, con sporgenti e calate su alcuni dei quali sono installate grandi gru per facilitare tutte le operazioni portuali.
Il porto di Taranto è sempre più orientato verso la diversificazione: dalla complessità dei trasporti eccezionali alla regolarità dei trasporti standardizzati di contenitori presso il Molo Polisettoriale, ristrutturato per accogliere grandi navi oceaniche di ultima generazione; dai moli al servizio delle grandi imprese dell’acciaio e dei combustibili fossili, agli sporgenti dove approdano navi che trasportano passeggeri e merci varie.
